Residents of a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district tied a mobile tower worker to a pole after becoming frustrated over persistent network problems, police said.
A video of the incident has surfaced on social media, prompting an investigation.
The incident took place in Hardauli village under the Bindki Kotwali police station area on Thursday evening. According to police, villagers had been facing mobile network issues for a long time and their frustration escalated when the tower worker arrived in the village.
The worker was caught by the villagers and tied to a pole inside the mobile tower premises.

According to residents, a mobile tower operated by a telecom company was installed in Hardauli village around two years ago. The installation had raised hopes among villagers that the long-standing connectivity problems would be resolved.
However, villagers claimed that the network service had remained unreliable, particularly in recent months. They said they were struggling to make phone calls and were also unable to use their mobile internet properly.
Residents have reportedly raised concerns over the issue for some time, but the problem continued.
On Thursday evening, the frustration among the villagers boiled over when the tower worker reached the village. The residents detained him and tied him to a pole within the tower compound.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and began looking into what had happened.
Bindki Kotwali in-charge Shailesh Singh said the investigation had so far indicated that villagers were angry over the mobile network problems in the area.
“The villagers were troubled by the mobile network issue, which led them to tie the tower worker to a pole,” Singh said.
Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the viral video to determine the sequence of events and identify those involved.
Officials said further action would be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the evidence available in the video.
