Flávio Bolsonaro Used Italian Passport to Enter Argentina and Did Not Pass Through Brazilian Border Checkpoint  Folha de S.Paulo

Brazil's defeated presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) used an Italian passport to enter Argentina on Tuesday (27) night before boarding a flight to Miami with his family.

Flávio, his wife, Fernanda, and their two daughters did not pass through any Federal Police checkpoint when leaving Brazil, as Brazilians are not required to do so when crossing land borders.

On Wednesday (28), the senator used his Brazilian diplomatic passport to enter the United States. U.S. President Donald Trump said he would approve his entry.

On Sunday (25), Supreme Federal Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes had ordered the Federal Police to cancel Flávio's Brazilian passports as part of a money laundering investigation.

Experts interviewed by Folha agree that the senator's departure from the country justifies a request for pretrial detention. They also cite the lack of input from prosecutors in the decision as a possible legal flaw.

Professor Rodrigo de Grandis says the investigation is continuing even with Flávio outside the country. "That does not prevent him from being formally charged or served with legal notice. In other words, there is a legal procedure carried out through international cooperation that allows him to face criminal proceedings even while outside the country. And the arrest warrant remains pending as long as the legal grounds for it continue to exist."
