Flight attendant catches baby before it fell off tired mother's lap - USA Today

John Frehse recently captured a Republic Airways flight attendant going above and beyond for an exhausted mother of a baby in a now-viral social media post.

Frehse, who often travels for work, was flying from Newark to Grand Rapids on Sept. 2 on a United Airlines flight operated by Republic Airways. He saw crew member Monique Harris quickly jump out of her seat to catch a baby who was rolling off the lap of its mother who had fallen asleep.

"The mother was lovely, she was just super tired," said Frehse. The mother woke up when she felt the baby move, but according to Frehse, Harris said, "Don't worry, go back to sleep. I got you."

Taken aback by her act of kindness, Frehse asked Harris if he take a picture and posted it on social media. As of Sept. 9, his Instagram post has over 205,000 likes.

"When I see somebody who’s working on the frontline who has this level of dedication, I know they’re never recognized for the work that they do," he said.

Republic Airways echoed the sentiment, saying in a statement, "We very much agree with all the positive comments we’ve read: Monique is an extraordinary colleague and flight attendant."

Frehse's post showed up on Harris' daughter's Facebook feed, and she was able to connect him to Harris herself. The two have now become fast friends. "I talk to Monique everyday, she's so humble," he said.
