Flood Impact: TOYOTA MOTOR THAILAND Announces Temporary Production Halt
Toyota Motor Thailand announced a temporary halt in production lines as a result of severe flooding and heavy rains in Bangkok and neighboring provinces. This has impacted logistics and the supply chain, disrupting the delivery of automotive parts to the assembly plants.
Scope of production halt (4 plants)Toyota Motor Thailand has temporarily suspended operations at its three main vehicle assembly plants: Samrong (Samut Prakan), Ban Pho (Chachoengsao), and Gateway (Chachoengsao), as well as at one joint venture plant, Toyota Auto Works.
The primary cause is logistics issues. Flooding in some areas remains high enough to block small vehicles, disrupting the automotive production lines. Over 320 millimeters of accumulated rain fell near parts manufacturing plants within just three days, causing flooding on main transportation routes. Parts suppliers and logistics vehicles cannot deliver components to the factories, resulting in parts shortages that affect the Just-in-Time (JIT) production system. Additionally, employees and personnel face difficulties commuting to the plants. The production halt is temporary, awaiting restoration of transportation routes. It is not a permanent factory closure or structural capacity reduction. Toyota Motor Thailand is coordinating with parts suppliers to assess damages, clear alternative transport routes, and prepare to resume production as soon as possible.
Regarding industrial impact, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and business sectors estimate initial damages to the automotive and related industrial supply chains at no less than 1 billion baht due to the floods. Once water drainage improves in key industrial areas, production lines can resume normal operations immediately.Arkom RumsuwanE-Mailchang.arcom@thairath.co.th Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/chang.arcom https://www.facebook.com/ARCOM-CHANG-Thairath-Online-525369247505358/
