Toyota Motor Thailand's announcement to temporarily pause production lines is due to flooding and heavy rain in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, impacting logistics and the supply chain for transporting automotive parts to assembly plants.

Scope of production halt (4 plants)Toyota Motor Thailand has temporarily suspended operations at its three main vehicle assembly plants: Samrong (Samut Prakan), Ban Pho (Chachoengsao), and Gateway (Chachoengsao), as well as one joint venture plant, Toyota Auto Works.

The main cause is logistics disruptions: suppliers are unable to deliver parts to all four plants. Floodwaters remain high in some areas, preventing small vehicles from traveling and disrupting vehicle production lines. The plants' locations experienced over 320 millimeters of accumulated rainfall within three days, leading to flooding on key transportation routes. Parts suppliers and logistics trucks cannot deliver components for Just-in-Time production as scheduled. Additionally, employees face difficulties commuting to the plants. The production halt is temporary, awaiting restoration of transport routes. This is not a permanent factory closure or structural capacity reduction. Toyota Motor Thailand is coordinating with parts suppliers to assess damages, clear alternative transport routes, and prepare to restart production lines as soon as possible.

Regarding industrial impact, the Federation of Thai Industries and business sectors estimate initial losses from flooding affecting the automotive supply chain and related industries at no less than 1 billion baht. Once water drainage in the strategic industrial zones improves, production lines are expected to resume normal operations immediately.Arkom RumsuwanE-Mailchang.arcom@thairath.co.thย Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/chang.arcomย https://www.facebook.com/ARCOM-CHANG-Thairath-Online-525369247505358/ย
