Flyers stage hilarious protest after Trevor Zegras' ridiculous jersey-tucking penalty

The Philadelphia Flyers hosted the Washington Capitals for their final preseason tune-up before opening the regular season on Tuesday, and things got started with a protest.

Don't worry. No knees were taken during the anthem or anything. Instead, most of the Flyers hit the ice with the backs of their jerseys tucked into their pants.

It was all in solidarity with teammate Trevor Zegras, who was hit with a ridiculous penalty for tucking in his jersey in their previous preseason game against the Boston Bruins.

Sure, the league made it clear that they would be enforcing the proper use of equipment. For visors, neckguards, and cut-proof gear, that's awesome.

For jersey tucks? Come on, man.

Zegras' teammates clearly agree and hit the ice with their jerseys tucked into their pants.

That's such a hilarious response to the situation ... but in all seriousness, fellas, make sure those jerseys are tucked in starting on Tuesday against the Penguins.

You can't be taking those penalties in games that count.

Zegras himself fought back against the penalty before the game when he shared a few pictures of himself playing youth hockey to show that the jersey-tucking thing has been going on for a long time.

I don't think any of that will change the officials' minds if they're dead set on policing how players wear equipment, which means Zegras will unfortunately have to get used to the sensation of his sweater flapping in the breeze.

The only problem with the Flyers protest was that it didn't help that much once the game got underway. They lost to the Capitals 5-1, leaving them with a preseason record of 1-3.

But, of course, the preseason doesn't really matter.

The Broad Street Bullies' first game that matters is Wednesday night at home against their arch-rival Penguins.
