Australian Defence Force Chief Admiral Mark Hammond has ruled out further disciplinary action against senior military commanders over leadership failures linked to alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.

His comments comes in the wake of the partial publication of a secretive inquiry into the culture within Australia's elite Special Forces units during the war in Afghanistan.

The inquiry found the chain of command in the SAS had been effectively inverted, and that senior commanders overlooked alarming warning signs - like a growing number of enemy casualties.

It also described the SAS as extremely homogeneous, with a largely closed culture "described by some as akin to a 'bikie gang'".
