Former AFL umpire in favor of lifetime fan bans - ABC News & Headlines – Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Hawthorn fans who threw bottles and cans at umpires during Saturday night's preliminary final will face at least a five year ban from both AFL games and the MCG. 

Former AFL umpires association president Chris Donlon said he endorses a lifetime ban to set an example that the behaviour won't be tolerated at a professional or grassroots level. 

Chris who has officiated over 400 AFL games told Justin Smith that he had been spat on by fans at games he'd umpired. 

He backed umpire Hayden Meyer's holding the ball call saying he would expect every umpire on the list to make the same call, no matter the late stage of the game.
