Former Deputy CM Alla Nani’s last rites performed with State honours

The last rites of former Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas (Nani) were performed with full State honours at Shanivarapupeta in Eluru on Thursday.

Minister of Housing and Information and Public Relations Kolusu Parthasarathi supervised the arrangements. The mortal remains of Mr. Nani, kept for public homage, were taken in a specially decorated vehicle through the streets of the city to the place where the last rites were performed, where the police accorded a gun salute and ceremonial honours. Mr. Nani’s wife, two sons and other family members attended the last rites.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parthasarathi said Mr. Nani’s demise was an irreparable loss to Eluru district and the State. He said Mr. Nani had made significant contributions to resolving public issues during his tenure as an MLA, MLC, and Deputy Chief Minister.

Recalling his association with Mr. Nani since 2004, Mr. Parthasarathi said they had shared a cordial relationship. He described Mr. Nani as a knowledgeable legislator who spoke with a good understanding of issues concerning his department in the Legislative Assembly.

Mr. Parthasarathi particularly recalled Mr. Nani’s services as Health Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said adequate stocks of vaccines and oxygen cylinders were maintained in hospitals, while COVID beds, doctors and medical staff were increased to meet the crisis.

Describing Mr. Nani as a soft-spoken and non-controversial leader who maintained cordial relations with people across sections, Mr. Parthasarathi expressed grief over his death. He assured the bereaved family of support from the Telugu Desam Party and the State government.

Eluru MLA Badeti Radhakrishnaiah (Chanti), AP Kapu Corporation chairman Kothapalli Subbarayudu, RDO K. Lakshmi Prasanna, Eluru UDA chairman Peddiboyina Vani Sivaprasad, ZP co-option member Ghanta Prasad, former Minister Maradani Rangarao and several public representatives, officials, leaders of different political parties, relatives, friends and admirers attended the last rites and paid their respects.
