Former MLA and Janata Dal (Secular) leader K.B. Prasanna Kumar on Tuesday demanded the resignation of School Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa over the recent corruption allegation made by Shivamogga Urban Development Authority (SUDA) chairman H.S. Sundaresh.

Addressing a press conference in Shivamogga, Mr. Prasanna Kumar said that Mr. Sundaresh, who belongs to the ruling Congress, had alleged that people close to the Minister, who is in charge of Shivamogga district, had demanded a bribe of ₹25 lakh from the SUDA Commissioner.

“This is a serious allegation made by a Congress leader who holds the post of SUDA chairman. The Karnataka Lokayukta should register a suo motu case and investigate the matter on the basis of Mr. Sundaresh’s statements,” he said.

Mr. Prasanna Kumar further alleged that corruption was rampant in government offices in the district and that the public were not getting services without paying bribes.

Mr. Sundaresh had recently told a press conference that a person close to the Minister had visited the SUDA office and demanded ₹25 lakh from the Commissioner.
