Four-decade-old land acquisition disputes involving 24 appeals were amicably settled at the National Lok Adalat organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Guntur, bringing relief to farmers whose 58.97 acres were acquired in 1983 for a 400/220 kV sub-station at Kottapalli village in Macherla mandal of the present Palnadu district.
The government had acquired 71.15 acres from farmers for the project and offered compensation of ₹7,000 an acre at the time. Farmers owning 58.97 acres approached the court seeking enhancement of compensation to ₹30,000 an acre. The 24 appeals had been pending before the X Additional District Court, Gurazala.
At the National Lok Adalat, compensation was fixed at ₹23,000 an acre for the 58.97 acres, with the Andhra Pradesh Energy Department agreeing to pay a total of ₹13,56,350.
The DLSA brought together the farmers, officials of the Energy and Revenue departments, the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration and other stakeholders to resolve the disputes, which had remained pending for more than four decades. The initiative was part of an intensive exercise to identify land acquisition cases and facilitate settlements.
The exercise was undertaken under the guidance of Andhra Pradesh High Court Administrative Judge Justice D. Ramesh and the leadership of DLSA Chairman B. Sai Kalyanachakravarthi, DLSA Secretary Syed Ziyauddin said here on Saturday.
The National Lok Adalat had 46 benches, including 16 constituted specifically for Guntur city, to provide speedy, accessible and cost-effective justice.
A motor accident compensation claim pending before the IV Additional District Court, Guntur, was also settled for ₹96 lakh. The case arose from the death of Deverapalli Jayanth in an accident on NH-16 near Mangalagiri on November 14, 2025. SBI General Insurance paid the compensation to his parents, Parvathi Devi and Pothuraju.
A partition dispute before the II Additional District Court, Guntur, was settled for ₹2 crore, with the sisters relinquishing their rights in the property. Another motor accident claim before the Principal District Court was settled for ₹5 lakh within three days of its filing.
The DLSA, Guntur, has secured the first position in civil-case settlements in the State on five consecutive occasions and expressed hope of retaining the distinction. It credited judicial officers, advocates, staff, litigants, insurers and other stakeholders for the achievement and reiterated its commitment to speedy, affordable and accessible justice.
