Four killed in two separate shootings in Eastern Cape - IOL

Four Eastern Cape people have been killed in two separate killings in Kwazakhele, Gqeberha, with police investigating the shootings and the identities of the suspects still unknown.

The incidents happened on Friday and Saturday in different parts of the area and are not believed to be connected.

In the first incident, police were called to Mango Street in France, Kwazakhele, at about 7.30 pm on Friday, September 18.

A 47-year-old man was travelling in a vehicle with his 45-year-old wife and their eight-year-old child when he was shot.

Police found the man dead in the driver's seat when they arrived.

His wife, who had sustained serious injuries in the shooting, was taken to Livingstone Hospital in a private vehicle. She later died from her injuries.

The couple's eight-year-old child was not injured.

Police have not established a motive for the shooting and do not yet know who was responsible.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The second incident happened in Salamntu Street in Nqantosi on Saturday, September 19.

Police responded to a murder complaint at about 10.05 am after a community member reported hearing gunshots in the area at about 1 am.

Community members later entered a shack and found the bodies of a 29-year-old man and a woman.

The man was found lying on the floor, while the woman was found seated on a couch.

Both had sustained gunshot wounds to the head and were declared dead at the scene.

As with the first case, police have not established a motive or identified the suspect or suspects.

The investigations into both incidents are continuing.

The names of the deceased will be released once they have been formally identified.
