Police said that it is too early to determine the cause of the crash and that the investigation is ongoing.
Police were called to the site of the crash on Watson Road South, just north of Wellington Road 34 around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Four teens, including two from Mississauga, one from Brampton and another as young as 15 from Milton, were killed in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning in Puslinch, Ont., just south of Guelph, police say.
The Ontario Provincial Police said first responders were called to the site of the crash at Watson Road South, just north of Wellington Road 34, around 1:30 a.m.
In an update at a Sunday morning news conference, police announced that four young people from the Toronto area were declared dead at the scene: a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl from Mississauga, a 19-year-old man from Brampton and a 15-year-old girl from Milton.
Two teenage girls from Mississauga, 16 and 17, also sustained serious injuries in the crash. The older girl suffered “life-altering” injuries, according to police.
Their identities have not been released, and police said they have not confirmed how the occupants know each other. Police said that all six people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
“It is difficult to put into words the hurt and heartbreak felt by everyone affected by this loss,” said OPP Supt. Wendy Burrow.
Inspt. Karen Medeiros, Wellington County OPP’s detachment commander, told reporters that multiple OPP units are working to collect information about speed and seatbelt use.
“I don’t believe that this vehicle had enough seatbelts for the amount of occupants that were in the vehicle at the time,” Medeiros told a reporter.
Medeiros told reporters that so far investigators have determined that the vehicle left the road and struck a guardrail, causing it to enter into a ravine.
“At this stage of the investigation, it is still to early to determine exactly what caused the collision,” said Medeiros.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area at that time and anyone who might have dashcam footage, surveillance footage or general information about the crash to contact Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
“Even information that might seem insignificant could prove valuable to investigators,” said Medeiros.
