Fuel hike pushes private ICD charges up 9.85%

Fuel price increases have prompted the Bangladesh Inland Container Depots Association (BICDA), representing private container depot owners, to raise container handling charges by 9.85 percent.

The association issued a notice on Monday announcing the increase.

BICDA Secretary General Ruhul Amin Sikder told bdnews24.com, “The government has increased fuel prices by Tk 20 per litre from [Monday]. Accordingly, diesel prices have risen 17.4 percent, from Tk 115 to Tk 135.

“We have different rates at different stages of container handling. We have increased all of them by an average of 9.85 percent, effective from today.”

The BICDA notice says surcharges have increased in six areas, including moving empty containers between Chittagong Port and ICDs and from Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) to ICDs. Charges for loading export goods and handling have also risen.

·         Transporting loaded export containers to Chittagong Port and PCT.

Charges for verifying the gross mass (VGM) of export containers have also increased, covering collection, transport to weighing scales, weighing, return to load yards and collection.

Import delivery charges have risen too, covering transport from Chattogram Port and PCT to ICDs, container collection, placement in delivery yards and delivery of imported goods from containers to trucks by workers.
