The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will collect 4 paise per unit from bi-monthly billed consumers and 5 paise per unit from monthly billed consumers as fuel surcharge in November.
The surcharge is meant to recover additional spending on power purchases in September this year. The surcharge will be applicable to all consumers except domestic consumers with connected load of and below 1,000 watts and monthly consumption of and below 40 units. Green tariff consumers also are exempted from this levy.
The levy is aimed at recouping the additional spending on power purchases from 12 central generating stations and six independent power producers (IPP) across the country.
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (Terms and Conditions for determination of Tariff) (First Amendment) Regulations allow a distribution business/ licensee to adjust, by recovery or refund, the fuel surcharge on a monthly basis.
