The immersion procession of the Ganesha idol installed by the Hindu Mahasabha drew a huge crowd in Shivamogga on Friday. Hundreds of people joined the procession, which continued till late in the night.

Devotees gathered along the procession route for a darshan of Ganesha, with some dancing to popular tunes as it passed by. Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa, former Minister K.S. Eshwarappa, and others took part in the procession.

The district administration and the police had made elaborate arrangements for the event. There was heavy deployment of police along the route, with high alert maintained at traffic junctions close to the mosque. Shivamogga SP B. Nikhil and other senior officers monitored the situation, with over 4,000 policemen deployed for the procession.

The procession began around 11 a.m. covering S.P.M. Road, Ramanna Shreshti Park, Gandhi Bazar Main Road, A.A. Circle, Gopi Circle and other prominent traffic junctions in the city.
