The Department of Social Development says its Gender-Based Violence Command Centre recorded an increase during the first half of September, with the 16th recording the most calls.

The department says the increase is 21 percent higher than the calls recorded in August.
Spokesperson Sandy Godlwana said the numbers are concerning as the country battles with rising cases of gender-based violence and Femicide.
"The Department of Social Development is urging communities to report gender based violence and ensure that survivors know where to get help."
