Geo-tagging to help police trace missing children, elderly during Brahmotsavams

The Tirupati district police have stepped up safety measures for children and elderly devotees attending the ongoing annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala, with a special geo-tagging initiative to help trace those who may get separated from their families in the surging crowds.

Under the campaign slogan, ‘Wear a tag - your safety is our responsibility’, geo-tags are being issued to children and senior citizens as a precautionary measure, enabling the police to locate them swiftly and reunite them with their families should they go missing.

The initiative covers high-footfall areas, including the pedestrian routes, four mada streets, pilgrim galleries, bus stands, choultries and rest houses. These locations are under continuous surveillance through CCTV cameras, drones and the command-and-control system, while additional personnel have been deployed at key congregation points.

District Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu has appealed to the families to remain vigilant, particularly in crowded areas, and ensure that children and elderly members are not left unattended. He urges devotees to immediately approach the nearest police or security personnel if a child or elderly person gets separated from the family, so that efforts to trace and reunite them can begin without delay.
