Girl dies after scorpion sting at Khanewal hospital

A seven-year-old girl died after allegedly failing to receive timely treatment for a scorpion bite at the District Headquarters Hospital Khanewal due to the unavailability of the required anti-venom, her family said. According to details, Zainab, daughter of railway employee Irfan and a resident of Railway Colony, Khanewal, was bitten by a scorpion and taken to the District Headquarters Hospital Khanewal for treatment. The family alleged that the anti-venom for scorpion bites was not available at the hospital, following which the hospital administration referred the girl to Nishtar Hospital, Multan. The family said they were taking Zainab to Multan when she died on the way, allegedly due to the effects of the venom. The girl's father has appealed to the Punjab government to take action against those responsible.
