Give him one year: Prakash Raj reacts to CM Vijay's governance, meeting with Ajith

Actor Prakash Raj has weighed in on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Joseph Vijay’s governance and his recent meeting with actor Ajith Kumar in England. While saying it is too early to assess Vijay’s government, which has been in office for around 120 days, Prakash Raj said the Chief Minister should be given at least a year before his performance is judged.

Speaking to the media in Trichy, Prakash Raj said he had several doubts about Vijay even before the election but maintained that the newly formed government needed time to work. He said he would wait until the first budget before commenting more extensively on its performance.

“Vijay is the Chief Minister not only for those who voted for him but also for those who did not vote for him. He should be given more time. At least one year should be allowed before commenting on the performance of his government,” Prakash Raj said. He added that if the government failed to perform after a year, he would question it.

"I have several doubts about Vijay. I had spoken about them even before the election. But they have won and formed the government. It has been only 120 days, so we cannot arrive at any conclusion now. We have to give them time. If they do not perform properly even after one year, I will question them," he explained.

Prakash Raj also addressed the attention surrounding Vijay’s recent overseas trip and his meeting with Ajith Kumar at the Le Mans race at Silverstone. Vijay had travelled to England and waved the ceremonial flag at the race, in which Ajith participated with his team.

“There is nothing wrong in him going abroad and meeting his friend Ajith,” Prakash Raj said, adding that the focus should instead be on whether Vijay accomplished the purpose of the trip. He was referring to Vijay’s claim that the visit had helped bring in investments worth several thousand crores.

The meeting between Vijay and Ajith became one of the most talked-about moments from the event. Videos of the two actors greeting each other with a hug went viral, while fans in the stands were also heard chanting ‘TVK’. Vijay was seen gesturing towards them, appearing to ask them to cheer for Ajith instead.

Vijay later watched the race from a balcony alongside Trisha Krishnan and TVK leader Aadhav Arjuna. Trisha was also seen with Vijay and Ajith in their tent before the race.

The Chief Minister’s UK visit had drawn political criticism, with opposition voices questioning aspects of the trip, including its purpose and expenditure. Prakash Raj, however, said the focus should be on what Vijay achieved during the visit rather than his meeting with Ajith.

Ajith, meanwhile, continues to balance his acting career with motorsport. He was last seen in Vidaamuyarchi and Good Bad Ugly and has Dare Devil lined up next.
