The importance and value of event venues have been emphasized at the recent 3rd Global Venue Experts Forum held in Beijing.

"Meeting and event venues serve as a strategic infrastructure and can create long-term value by supporting economic development, knowledge exchange, social progress and global dialogue,” said a convention association official at the forum.

Senthil Gopinath, CEO of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), noted on the occasion that the international meetings and events industry is shifting from viewing venues as facilities to recognizing them as "strategic infrastructure."

The forum, held alongside an international forum on the development of exhibition and convention economy, also saw the release of a group standard on the general requirements for the construction, operation and maintenance of digital systems for smart venues.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the cooperation between Beijing North Star Group and ICCA. Seven venues under the group have now joined ICCA and provided professional services for more than 100 international conferences and events worldwide.
