Government condemns killing of 14-year-old twins in Mamelodi West - IOL
The government has condemned the killing of 14-year-old twin brothers who were stabbed to death at their home in Mamelodi West, east of Pretoria.
The boys were found dead in a bedroom on Friday after their mother returned home from work and discovered their bodies. Police said the twins had sustained multiple stab wounds. The circumstances surrounding the killings remain unclear, and no arrests have been made.
Acting government spokesperson Nomonde Mnukwa said the loss of the two children was deeply distressing and called on communities to work with law enforcement to ensure those responsible are brought to book.
"Children are the future of our nation, and every child lost to violence is a loss to the future we are building as a country. We must do everything in our power to protect our children. It is therefore a responsibility we all share," Mnukwa said.
"The circumstances surrounding these killings are currently under investigation by the police, and government is confident that law enforcement will leave no stone unturned and ensure that those responsible are brought to book,".
She added that residents of Mamelodi and surrounding communities should provide police with any information that could help identify and apprehend those responsible.
Mnukwa urged people not to share unverified information, speculation or images on social media, warning that this could cause further distress to the family and compromise the investigation.
"The protection of children is a collective responsibility, and everyone must work together to create environments where children are protected from violence and abuse.
"Government urges communities not to remain silent when children are at risk. The loss of these two young lives must strengthen our collective resolve to protect our children and to ensure that those who threaten their safety are held accountable"
