Govt. augmenting power supply infra in villages at a cost of ₹10,000 crore, says Energy Minister Ravi Kumar

Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar has said that power supply infrastructure in the rural areas is being augmented at an approximate cost of ₹10,000 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and solar panels are being installed on the rooftops of nearly six lakh SC and ST families through the PM Surya Ghar scheme.

Top priority was being accorded to the welfare of the power utilities, Mr. Ravi Kumar said while participating as chief guest in the handing over of orders of appointment to 25 employees inducted on compassionate grounds, at the APCPDCL Corporate Office in Vijayawada on Wednesday.

Since taking over the reins in June 2024, the coalition government gave compassionate appointments to 389 persons in the AP-Genco, AP-Transco and the DISCOMs, and that officials were instructed to provide jobs to another 35 to 45 eligible candidates, he said.

Mr. Ravi Kumar noted that examinations were successfully conducted for filling 629 Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) posts in the department and their results would be released soon. Steps were being taken to complete the certificate verification process shortly and conduct the recruitment process transparently without causing any inconvenience to the candidates.

The Minister stated that three instalments of Dearness Allowances (DA) had been given to the employees so far by the coalition government, and emphasised that the department was working with the sole objective of employee welfare.

He mentioned that a special training centre was constructed in Visakhapatnam at a cost of about ₹30 crore to offer better training to the employees to enable them to discharge their duties effectively with the help of latest technologies.

The government took comprehensive measures for recruitment, employee welfare, training, promotion of renewable energy, and rural power infrastructure development, Mr. Ravi Kumar added.

CMD of APCPDCL P. Pulla Reddy, and Directors A. Muralikrishna Yadav, T.V.S.N. Murthy and S. Venkateswarlu were among those present.
