Govt seeks special employee holiday for flood-hit businesses - Bangkok Post

Residents use a floating plastic container to collect flood relief supplies in Bangkok's Bueng Kum District.(photo supplied) The Department of Labour Protection and Welfare (DLPW) is asking businesses in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan to declare Sept 28 and 29 as special holidays for employees facing the chaotic flooding in Bangkok.

Director-general Saroj Komkai said on Monday the DLPW was asking the private sector to cooperate and in the affected areas to designate Monday and Tuesday additional special holidays.

The request follows Sunday's cabinet resolution declaring Sept 28 and 29 special government holidays to mitigate the impact of heavy rainfall and flooding.

Severe flooding in the capital and surrounding areas has affected about 700,000 people, according to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on Monday.

The Ministry of Education has ordered private and international schools to suspend classes for an additional day on Sept 29 to align with the government’s special public holiday, Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong said.

The decision follows feedback from parents, Mr Prasert said.

Additionally, schools affected by flooding are permitted to extend closures at their discretion based on local conditions, with student safety the priority, he said.
