At least two persons were killed and six others injured on Sunday evening when gunmen attacked Fulani herders travelling in a pick-up vehicle around Total Filling Station, Yelwa Club Junction, Bukuru, Jos South Local Council of Plateau State.

The attack occurred less than two weeks after gunmen reportedly attacked herders around Kassa community in Barkin Ladi Local Council, killing five persons and injuring one.

The state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, who confirmed the latest incident in Jos, said the victims were attacked at about 5:30 p.m. while returning from a cattle market.

Babayo condemned the attack and urged security agencies to track down those responsible and bring them to justice.

He said the victims had been rushed to hospital, adding that one person was still missing.

Babayo said MACBAN was concerned that the latest incident was not isolated, recalling that five Fulani herders were killed on September 20, 2026, around Kassa in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area while returning from the same market.

He also recalled that Fulani herders were attacked near Conoil Filling Station in December last year while returning from the market.

β€œThis unfortunate incident is deeply disturbing and represents yet another attack against innocent herders who were peacefully returning from their lawful business activities,” Babayo said.

He urged the Plateau State Government, the Nigeria Police Force, Operation Safe Haven, the Department of State Services and other security agencies to strengthen security along the Kara-Bukuru market route and take measures to prevent further attacks.

β€œWe also call on our members to remain calm, law-abiding, and to avoid any form of retaliation. We have confidence that the security agencies will carry out a professional investigation and ensure that justice is served,” he said.

Babayo added that MACBAN remained committed to peaceful coexistence with communities across Plateau State, saying lasting peace could only be achieved through justice, fairness and equal protection for all citizens.

The Plateau State Police Command has condemned the incident and commenced an investigation.

It urged residents to go about their lawful activities and report suspicious activities to the police.
