Gurugram hit-and-run victim breaks silence, challenges accused's claims
The Gurugram hit-and-run victim, Sia, has shared her first video statement after the accused, Kalyan Bainsla, spoke to India Today TV and denied deliberately ramming his car into her motorcycle.
In her video statement, Sia responded to Bainsla’s claims that two bikers repeatedly overtook his car, moved ahead and slowed down, and that he was unaware that a woman was riding the motorcycle. Sharing a video of the accused’s interview, she questioned several of his claims and said the footage of the incident clearly showed what had happened.
Sia also questioned the accused’s claim that the bikers were repeatedly “pinching” and changing their speed. “If you feel that we were speeding up and slowing down, what makes it right for you to chase me throughout the road?” she asked.‘WHY DID YOU FOLLOW ME?’
Sia said the videos showed the car following the bikers and alleged that the driver intentionally changed lanes before hitting her motorcycle.
She questioned why the accused continued to follow her if he believed the bikers were riding dangerously. She also rejected Bainsla’s claim that he did not know a woman was riding the motorcycle.
According to Sia, her long hair and bun were clearly visible, and the accused had approached her and asked her to stop the bike before the collision.
Sia also responded to Bainsla’s comments about the number of people present at the scene and the videos that surfaced after the incident.
She said two videos were sufficient to establish what happened. One, she said, showed the car moving from the front lane directly towards the third lane before hitting the bikers and fleeing. The second, recorded by her own camera, showed the car moving from the first lane to the third lane before hitting her.
She said the footage also showed her being dragged against the car before falling onto the road.‘IF YOU WERE CONCERNED, WHY DID YOU NOT STOP?’
Sia questioned the accused’s expression of sympathy for her injuries, saying that if he was genuinely concerned after the collision, he should have stopped and checked whether she was alive or seriously injured.
She said even a delay of two or three seconds could have resulted in far more serious injuries, including broken bones or death.
“Those who hit me did not stop for even one second to see whether the person they had hit was alive or dead,” she said, questioning the sympathy expressed after the incident.
The woman biker also said the incident had made her feel unsafe on the Delhi-Gurugram roads and urged people to support action against reckless driving.
The incident took place on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road on Sunday morning when Sia was riding with fellow bikers. She was injured after a white sedan allegedly rammed her motorcycle in what police are treating as a suspected hit-and-run case.
The collision was captured on an action camera mounted on her superbike and the footage subsequently went viral on social media. Gurugram police took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered an FIR against an unidentified person.
Bainsla, who has been accused of chasing and hitting the biker, denied deliberately ramming into her motorcycle in his interview with India Today TV. He said he was travelling with his cousin and claimed he did not hit the bikers intentionally.
