Gurugram woman dies after jumping from high-rise, husband accused of harassment

A woman died after allegedly jumping from the third floor of a high-rise society in Gurugram's Sohna area on Thursday, triggering panic among residents. The deceased, identified as Deepa, was the wife of Jatin, a former joint secretary of the society.

The incident took place at Tower 8 of MVN Society on the Sohna-Dohla Road. Residents were alarmed after the woman fell to the ground. Police reached the spot after being informed and took the body into custody before sending it to the mortuary of Sohna Civil Hospital for postmortem.

According to Deepa's family, she had been facing repeated domestic violence and mental harassment from her husband. Her relatives alleged that Jatin would frequently return home drunk and assault her.

The family further alleged that continued quarrels and harassment had left Deepa under severe mental distress. They claimed that she eventually took the extreme step after being unable to cope with the situation.

The incident has also left behind Deepa's eight-year-old son, who has lost his mother.

The investigating officer said a case has been registered against the woman's husband on the basis of a complaint filed by her father. Police are investigating the allegations, while further legal action will be taken after the postmortem report. - EndsWith inputs from Neeraj Vashishtha
