A Gurugram-based woman’s suspicious reaction to a security guard sending her and her roommate home-cooked food after they fired their cook has divided viewers over whether the gesture was caring or crossed a boundary.

“Is this creepy or caring? POV: You fired your cook in Gurgaon,” read the caption of a post shared by Priyanka Giri on Instagram.

Priyanka, in the video, said that she and her roommate had been looking for a replacement after firing their previous cook. While she was at work, her security guard messaged her saying he had brought dinner for her.

“I was a bit confused. I thought it was because I had helped him out a few times. And I just came from the office, and he was like, ‘Give this to Kritika also.’ And that’s when it struck me that my roommate had told him that we were looking for a cook,” she said.

The guard had got the food cooked by his wife for Priyanka and her roommate. “I don’t know how to feel about that,” she added.

In the caption, Priyanka provided more context, saying the guard told them he did not want money and would send them food every day. She said this made the situation “scary and confusing” for her.

She also clarified that she and the guard were “not that close” and would have found the gesture genuinely sweet if he had asked them directly before giving them food.

“We did thank him, and everything,” she said, adding that he had also “yelled” at them in a way that made them uncomfortable when he gave them the food.

Being cautious did not mean being ungrateful, Priyanka said, adding: “You can appreciate somebody’s kindness and still have boundaries when something makes you uncomfortable.”

Her post triggered a debate in the comments section, with several users suggesting that the security guard may simply have been trying to help his wife find work as a cook.

One user shared a similar experience, saying that after they fired their cook, they asked their security guard to help find a replacement. The guard offered to cook for them or bring rotis from his home, but the user politely declined, saying they believed his offer was motivated by legitimate financial reasons.

Another user urged Priyanka not to overthink the gesture and suggested it could simply have been an act of kindness.

Others believed the guard may have been trying to help his wife find work. “Obviously trying to get his wife work, not creepy,” one user commented.

Another suggested that the food could have been intended as a sample of his wife’s cooking, saying he may have been trying to help her get hired as a cook.

Several users, however, said they understood why Priyanka felt uncomfortable. One user said women have to “overthink everything” because they could later be questioned about why they accepted food or trusted someone.

Another user said the situation reflected how safety concerns can affect women’s reactions to seemingly kind gestures: “Sweetly thank him for the gesture and deny the food.”

The comments left users divided over whether the security guard’s gesture was simply an attempt to help his wife find work or whether Priyanka Giri was justified in maintaining a boundary.- Ends
