Calling for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation for allegedly misleading the public over changes made to Form 6, which is usually employed for registering first-time voters, Communist Party of India (CPI) general secretary D. Raja said the Supreme Court’s remarks on the issue on Monday (October 5, 2026) raised questions over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) credibility and impartiality.

The Supreme Court had on Monday (October 5) remarked that the modified Form 6 had not been approved by the apex court, contrary to a claim made in an ECI press release dated September 26.

Mr. Raja alleged that Mr. Kumar had invoked the Supreme Court’s name to justify the changes and had ignored objections raised by the other Election Commissioners. “This is utterly shameless. Gyanesh Kumar has destroyed the credibility and impartiality of the Election Commission and is now exposed for misleading the country, Gyanesh Kumar is a vote chor [thief], liar and butcher of democracy,” Mr. Raja said in a post on X.

The Election Commission, Mr. Raja said, needs to provide answers on who changed Form 6, and who authorised the false claim with reference to the Supreme Court. “It is imperative that this man must resign if electoral democracy is to survive,” Mr. Raja said.
