Hanuman Ansh does unthinkable on Day 40, beats Dhurandhar, Pathaan and Chhaava

Most films are already preparing to leave the big screen by the time they reach Day 40. Hanuman Ansh, however, appears to have other plans. The Vishal Chaturvedi-directed devotional film continued its theatrical run with an India nett collection of Rs 8.25 crore on its 40th day, a number that stands out even among films that have enjoyed long box-office runs.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned the amount across 9,175 shows in India. With that latest collection, Hanuman Ansh has taken its India nett total to Rs 231.13 crore, while its India gross stands at Rs 272.90 crore. The film also collected Rs 2 crore overseas on Day 40, taking its overseas gross to Rs 18.50 crore. Its worldwide gross now stands at Rs 291.40 crore.

But it is the Day 40 figure that has grabbed attention. At this stage of a theatrical run, films generally see their daily collections shrink to a fraction of their opening numbers. Hanuman Ansh has instead managed to pull in Rs 8.25 crore nett in India, putting its Day 40 number ahead of several major Hindi releases.

In the comparison doing the rounds, Hanuman Ansh leads with Rs 8.25 crore on Day 40. Dhurandhar follows with Rs 2.60 crore, while Pathaan recorded Rs 2.55 crore. The comparison is worth noting for what it actually measures. These are not the films' opening-day numbers or their peak collections. They are figures from a much later point in their theatrical journeys, when the initial rush has long settled. Against that backdrop, Hanuman Ansh's Rs 291 crore becomes an unusual late-run figure.

Hanuman Ansh opened with a modest Rs 10 lakh. It was also made on a reported budget of around Rs 2 crore. There was little about its arrival that suggested it would eventually become one of the more talked-about theatrical performers of the year. Instead, the film appears to have found its audience gradually.

The devotional drama centres on Neem Karoli Baba, and its subject has helped it travel through word of mouth rather than relying entirely on the kind of massive opening that usually accompanies a star-driven Hindi release. As more viewers discovered the film, its theatrical run continued to hold up, allowing it to add shows and collections well beyond the initial weeks.

That long tail has become particularly noticeable now, with newer releases such as Mirzapur: The Movie and Haiwaan also arriving in cinemas. While attention usually moves quickly towards the next big release, Hanuman Ansh has continued to occupy screens and attract viewers.

Hanuman Ansh is directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and stars Shobhinaw Satyaa and Chandan Anand in key roles.
