Hawks: Madlanga Commission not behind arrest of man accused of stealing drugs from offices

The Hawks said recent revelations at the Madlanga Commission were not behind the arrest of a man accused of stealing drugs from its offices five years ago.

In November 2021, 541 kilograms of cocaine were stolen from the Hawks' offices in Port Shepstone, south of KwaZulu-Natal.

A Pretoria-based businessman, Lucas Legabe, was arrested by the Hawks in August this year on charges of housebreaking with intent to steal and deal in drugs.

He appeared at the Port Shepstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday for his bail application.

In August, the Hawks arrested a prominent Durban businessman on charges of human trafficking.

The alleged offence that he was arrested for happened in 2022.

In his bail application, the businessman alleged he was only arrested four years after the incident because his name came up at the Madlanga Commission.
