A woman who was hit by a car, dragged on its bonnet and then run over in Lucknow has said that she had been in a long-term relationship with the accused, who she claimed subjected her to repeated physical and mental abuse and eventually tried to kill her.

Speaking to Aaj Tak, India Today's sister channel, the survivor, Anamika, claimed that Shahnawaz, who is currently in jail, had introduced himself to her as β€œYash Thakur” and said he was from Azamgarh when they first met.

She said she later discovered his real name was Shahnawaz.

She also said that Shahnawaz claimed to be close to Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and would tell her that everything would be β€œsettled” if he came to power in Uttar Pradesh. She further claimed that Shahnawaz wanted to contest the councillor election from the Samajwadi Party.

Anamika said that Shahnawaz physically abused her, particularly when he was drunk, and also subjected her to mental harassment. She claimed he frequently went to clubs and flirted with other women and that he became violent when she objected to his behaviour.

She further alleged that Shahnawaz repeatedly stalked her. According to her, he had obtained her phone number and, even after she blocked him several times, would allegedly pass the number on to his friends.

She said some of his friends had warned her to stay out of his way, allegedly telling her that nothing would happen to him even if he was arrested, because he would eventually get bail and return.

Anamika also alleged that the threats continued after the incident. She claimed that people associated with Shahnawaz were still pressuring her to withdraw the case and warning her that they would β€œremove” her from the way.

She said she feared that Shahnawaz could kill her if he was released from jail.'KILL HER, WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS'

Recounting the attack, Anamika said that she had confronted Shahnawaz after seeing him with another woman and after learning that he had concealed his identity from her.

She tried to stop him from leaving in his car following the argument. A video of the incident shows her on the bonnet of the moving vehicle. She is then seen falling from the side of the car before the vehicle moves towards her again and runs her over.

Anamika alleged that while the car was being driven towards her, Shahnawaz said, β€œKill her, and we'll see what happens.”

She suffered injuries in the incident before the car sped away. Police have arrested Shahnawaz in connection with the case.THREATS OVER VIRAL VIDEO

Anamika also spoke about a video that had gone viral, saying it had been recorded inside a car a few days before the incident.

She claimed she had been emotional while the video was being made and did not know what the intention behind recording it was.

She said that some people later came to her house and threatened to make the video viral unless she withdrew her complaint.

Anamika made further allegations against some of Shahnawaz's associates, claiming that Sharif and Danish were involved with him and that they would pick up women from clubs and behave similarly.

The woman further alleged that one of the women associated with Shahnawaz was still living with him in DLF, and claimed that he had also killed her.

She said that after the incident, Shahnawaz came home and allegedly told her, β€œYour permission will be taken, but not mine, and we will be released on bail.”- EndsPublished By: Published On: Sep 18, 2026 09:18 IST
