House break-in attempt: Assam native held in Keralam’s Thrissur

The Chavakkad police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Assam for allegedly breaking into a house near the Manathala Block Office at Chavakkad in Keralam’s Thrissur district and attempting to steal valuables.

The arrested is Radheshyam Garh, 22, a native of Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district, Assam.

The incident occurred September 11, when the doors at both the front and back of a house owned by the complainant’s father, located behind the Manathala Block Office, were found forcibly broken open.

The complainant and his friend entered the house to inspect the premises and found a man asleep in an upstairs bedroom. They immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and took the man into custody.

During questioning, the police identified him as Garh. A subsequent inspection of the house and investigation revealed that he had allegedly entered the house, opened cupboards and other storage spaces, and scattered belongings in an attempt to steal valuables.

The complainant later came to the police station and identified the accused. As Garh does not understand Malayalam, the police arranged the assistance of an Assamese-speaking interpreter to ensure that he understood the nature of the alleged offence and the legal proceedings.

After completing the required legal formalities, the police formally arrested him at around 10.15 a.m. on September 12. A case has been registered against him at the Chavakkad police station. The accused was produced before the court and remanded in custody.
