AJK president says Kashmir's final settlement should reflect Kashmiri aspirations and UN Security Council resolutions
A delegation of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), led by Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi, on Saturday called on President Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Dr Muhammad Najib Khan and discussed the latest situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The meeting discussed Indian actions in IIOJK, alleged human rights violations, the situation of Hurriyat leaders and activists, and efforts to highlight the Kashmir issue at the international level.
The AJK president said the Jammu and Kashmir dispute was an internationally recognised issue and its final settlement should be in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, a press release issued here said.
He said the Kashmiri people should be given their right to self-determination to decide their future, and appreciated Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmir cause.
Dr Najib Khan said the unilateral actions of August 5, 2019 could not change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir or affect the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination.
He called upon the international community to take notice of the situation in IIOJK and urged the UN human rights bodies and international observers to be given access to the territory for an impartial assessment of the situation.
The president also called for highlighting alleged human rights violations, arrests of political activists and Hurriyat leaders and restrictions on freedom of expression in IIOJK.
He said the United Nations should fulfill its commitments to the Kashmiri people and urged the international community to press India for implementation of relevant UN resolutions.
