Hyderabad man caught with 14 ecstasy pills, leads to Goa-Mumbai supply trail

A 29-year-old man who allegedly travelled from Mumbai to Hyderabad carrying ecstasy pills for two acquaintances was apprehended near the Miyapur Metro Station, with the investigation now pointing to a wider Goa-Mumbai-Hyderabad drug supply network.

The Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), along with Miyapur police, apprehended Pola Suresh Gopi, 29, and seized 14 ecstasy pills containing MDMA, weighing about nine grams, and two mobile phones.

According to investigators, Gopi, a native of Miryalaguda in Nalgonda district, who currently resides in Hyderabad, moved to Goa in July 2024 and entered the rental-property business. It was during his stay there that he allegedly came in contact with people involved in the sale of narcotics and began procuring drugs for acquaintances and selling them at higher prices.

The investigation has identified two alleged suppliers, one Baba in Goa and Danish Alam Ansari of Mumbai, both of whom are absconding.

Police said Gopi initially procured drugs from Baba through cash transactions in Goa. He later allegedly came into contact with Ansari, who would visit Goa and sell drugs.

The immediate trail to Hyderabad began around 10 days before Gopi was apprehended, when two acquaintances in the city allegedly contacted him seeking ecstasy pills.

Investigators said Gopi travelled to Mumbai on September 16 and allegedly bought 29 ecstasy pills from Ansari for ₹22,500, paying through a bank transfer. The pills were purchased at ₹750 each.

Of the 29 pills, he allegedly sold 15 in Mumbai to an acquaintance identified only as ‘Munna’, a resident of Goa, and retained the remaining 14. He then boarded a private bus from Nerul in Mumbai and travelled to Hyderabad with the pills, allegedly intending to supply them here.

Acting on information, EAGLE personnel and Miyapur police intercepted him while he was passing through the vicinity of Miyapur Metro Station, and recovered the pills.

Investigators are now examining his two mobile phones and other evidence to identify those allegedly involved in procuring, transporting and distributing the drug, as well as customers and financial transactions linked to the network.

A case has been registered at Miyapur police station under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. Efforts are under way to trace Baba and Ansari and establish the full extent of the interstate supply chain.
