Hyderabad man finds Rs 230 meal costs Rs 436 on Swiggy, people point to convenience

A Hyderabad man’s comparison of a restaurant bill with a Swiggy order has put the spotlight on the extra cost of ordering food online. A meal that cost Rs 230 at the restaurant showed up at Rs 436 on Swiggy before any discount or coupon was applied.

The comparison was shared on X by user @idlebrainjeevi and showed the details of the menu from Panchakattu Dosa in Hyderabad’s Banjara Hills.

According to the restaurant bill, a Neyyi kaaram onion dosa cost Rs 104, while Neyyi pongal was priced at Rs 85 and filter coffee at Rs 28. The items added up to Rs 219.04, with the final bill coming to Rs 230 after GST.

The same comparison looked considerably different on Swiggy. The onion dosa was listed at Rs 149 and pongal at Rs 115. A special filter coffee cost Rs 120. The total came to Rs 436 before any coupon or discount was applied.

The difference of Rs 206 quickly became the focus of the discussion online. While some users felt the additional cost made online food delivery difficult to justify, others pointed out that delivery platforms also charge for convenience and the service involved.

Another defended the difference in prices, writing, “How will delivery companies, delivery drivers make money then if prices are exactly same? Not possible. That’s why lot of difference between online and offline.”

Some users also pointed out that the comparison did not account for discounts, travel costs or the time saved by ordering from home.
