‘I can’t eat as much’: Kawhi Leonard has fun with Ka’Wine & Dine revival at Raptors media day - Toronto Star

Leonard joked he now uses the phrase on friends — telling them to Ka'Wine & Dine him whenever they pick up the tab.

Kawhi Leonard had a big smile when asked at Raptors media day on Monday about the revival of Ka’Wine & Dine, the grass-roots campaign offering the superstar free food at local restaurants in Toronto.

“I wanna know who told them I like to eat,” joked Leonard. “I’m older now, so I can’t eat as much, gotta stay locked in.”

Initially, the campaign started as a pitch from fans and local restaurant owners to encourage Leonard to re-sign with Toronto in 2019. Even though Leonard left to sign with his hometown Los Angeles Clippers, Ka-Wine and Dine was brought back when the Raptors landed him this summer in a blockbuster trade.

“Wine’d him. Dine’d him. Finally re-signed him,” reads the official website of the campaign.

A series of key players will answer questions from a podium to kick off the season’s festivities in Toronto.
