The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) welcomed Friday’s judgment of the Electoral Court dismissing an application by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which challenged the results of the 2024 provincial and national elections.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) welcomed Friday’s judgment of the Electoral Court dismissing an application by the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), which challenged the results of the 2024 provincial and national elections.
The commission said that following the ruling, it will now finalise the independent and external audit of the results system to be used for the 4 November municipal polls.
In its case, the MKP alleged that when the leaderboard at the National Results Operations Centre went blank for two hours on 31 May 2024, votes were manipulated and the party was shortchanged in the final tallies.
