The Mexican government requested the arrest of Rafael Olvera Amezcua, main stockholder of Ficrea, to the US authorities, in order to extradite him to face charges for fraud for over 2.7 billion pesos (US$184.9 million) against 6,848 savers. According to the arrest order presented by a federal judge in January, the Mexican authorities requested to their US counterparts the arrest and extradition of Olvera Amezcua in order to have him face charges for organized crime and operations with illegal funds.
US authorities confirmed that Olvera Amezcua entered the country with a visa and was not arrested back then because it had not been requested by the Mexican authorities, neither by their own government.
The situation has changed now and Olvera Amezcua is considered an international fugitive because Interpol has requested his arrest in 190 countries.
"As soon as there is a request and an arrest order, there is an immediate alert in the borders, as well as the airports, ports, highways and also local, state and federal authorities will have all the related information," said a source from the Homeland Security Department to EL UNIVERSAL.
Olvera Amezcua was located in November, in Texas, where he has some properties and his son Rafael Olvera Silva, another suspect of the fraud, is a resident with his family.
