Two boys aged between 12 and 13 were found dead after going missing while swimming on Saturday, in the Tugela River in Mandeni.

According to the Mandeni Municipality, the boys, aged 12 and 13, were from Ward 15.

They were last seen on Saturday when they went swimming in the river.

Divers, disaster management officials and police were called in to assist with the search which was hampered by the strong river current.

The municipality said Mayor Thabani Mdlalose also joined the search on Monday.

It confirmed that the bodies of both boys was found on Monday.

β€œAs the Mandeni Municipality, we deeply sympathise with the bereaved families and extend our condolences to the families, relatives and friends. We will continue working together with the families to ensure that their children are laid to rest with dignity,” said Mdlalose.
