India rejects Islamic bloc references to J&K, asks group to counsel Pakistan
India on Wednesday rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in a joint communique issued by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group, calling them “unwarranted and factually incorrect” and saying the grouping has no locus standi on matters internal to India.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the entire Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are “integral and inalienable” parts of India, adding that repeated political narratives cannot alter this reality. “The OIC has no locus standi to pronounce on matters that are strictly internal to India,” the MEA said.
The statement came after the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.INDIA QUESTIONS OIC CREDIBILITY
The MEA said the OIC's repeated endorsement of what it described as “politically motivated propaganda” raised questions about the credibility of the grouping. “Repeated endorsement of such motivated narratives only raises serious questions on the credibility of OIC,” the ministry said.
The OIC Contact Group comprises Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia and Niger. At its meeting in New York on Tuesday, the group reaffirmed its support for what it described as the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.INDIA TARGETS PAKISTAN OVER TERRORISM
New Delhi also hit out at Pakistan for using the OIC platform to raise the Jammu and Kashmir issue. “Instead of offering a platform to Pakistan to peddle its fabricated and motivated propaganda, OIC will be better advised to counsel Pakistan,” the MEA said.
India accused Pakistan of having a “well-documented record of supporting and sponsoring terrorism” and urged it to address the continuing threat of terrorism emanating from territories under its control.
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had addressed the OIC meeting and urged member states to maintain a unified position on Jammu and Kashmir at the UN and other international forums.
