The 13th edition of the India-Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise, SLINEX-26, began in Visakhapatnam on September 17, with the two Navies focusing on enhancing operational interoperability and maritime cooperation.

According to the Indian Navy, the exercise, being conducted under the aegis of the Eastern Naval Command until September 21, comprises a Harbour Phase followed by a Sea Phase. The Indian Navy is represented by the indigenously designed Anti-Submarine Warfare corvette INS Kavaratti and fleet tanker INS Jyoti, while the Sri Lanka Navy has deployed SLNS Sindurala.

The Harbour Phase began with an opening ceremony and a reception onboard INS Kavaratti for the crew of SLNS Sindurala. It includes professional interactions, cross-deck visits, exchange of best practices, Yoga, and sporting and cultural activities.

The Sea Phase will involve coordinated activities aimed at strengthening operational synergy and interoperability between the two Navies.

Conceptualised in 2005, SLINEX has evolved into a platform for enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation between the Indian and Sri Lankan Navies.

The exercise also provides an opportunity for both sides to exchange operational experiences and strengthen their ability to work together in the maritime domain.

The exercise is aligned with India’s MAHASAGAR vision and is aimed at contributing to a secure, stable and inclusive maritime environment in the Indian Ocean Region.
