Both sides penalised after failing to maintain required over rate in New Chandigarh ODI
India and West Indies have been sanctioned for maintaining slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their series in New Chandigarh on Saturday. India were found to be four overs short of the required rate, while West Indies were two overs behind after time allowances were taken into consideration. Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanctions, with both captains pleading guilty and accepting the proposed penalties, avoiding the need for formal hearings. The charges were levelled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma. West Indies, who had already lost the three-match series 2-0, ended the ODI leg of their India tour on a high with a record-breaking victory in New Chandigarh. Shai Hope struck an unbeaten 162 as West Indies chased down 352 to register their highest successful run chase in men’s ODIs. The teams now turn their attention to a five-match T20I series beginning on October 6.
