India's Mona Bhujel joins Bhavitha Mandava, Lakshmi Menon on Chanel's Paris runway
Paris Fashion Week gave Indian fashion another global moment on Monday, but this one was less about a single showstopper and more about three very different interpretations of Chanel.
Besides Bhavitha Mandava, Lakshmi Menon, Indian model Mona Bhujel walked Matthieu Blazy’s Spring/Summer 2027 ready-to-wear show for Chanel at the Grand Palais in Paris on October 5. Bhujel has been building an international runway career since 2022. She made her major runway debut with Bottega Veneta for its Spring/Summer 2023 show and later walked for labels including Nehera.
Each appeared in a distinctly different look from the collection, which comprised 83 looks and drew on the codes associated with Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel while giving them Blazy’s contemporary treatment.
Bhavitha Mandava, who is Chanel’s first Indian House Ambassador, returned to the runway in look number 10.Bhavitha Mandava went sculptural
Bhavitha's look was perhaps the most dramatic of the three.
She walked in a black dress built around sculptural rose details, with the flowers stitched together to create an asymmetrical silhouette. The dress featured cut-outs and a fluid, flowing length, giving the otherwise dark look a sense of movement.
She paired it with an ice-blue Chanel clutch, sandals and earrings. The look also fitted neatly into Blazy’s broader approach to the collection, where familiar Chanel codes were pushed into more contemporary shapes and proportions. She wore a pearl-white silk sleeveless blouse with a gold chain detail at the neckline. It was paired with a pistachio-green skirt featuring gold detailing and embellished buttons. A white belt, sandals and Chanel clutch completed the look, while the classic Chanel tweed jacket brought one of the house’s most recognisable signatures into the ensemble.
The combination was a departure from the monochrome drama of Bhavitha’s look, with the pale green and white palette giving the outfit a fresher, lighter feel. She wore a sheer black blouse with spaghetti straps, gathered detailing through the torso and a floral embellishment across the bust. The blouse was paired with a gingham-patterned skirt and matching jacket.
A leather belt added structure, while a Chanel handbag and booties completed the outfit. That Chanel handbag!
The presentation also leaned into Chanel’s history. Model Dyanira Hurbuscher opened and closed the show carrying Gabrielle Chanel’s original 2.55 handbag from the house archives, creating a deliberate link between the founder’s legacy and Blazy’s current vision. Nicole Kidman, Dua Lipa, Pedro Pascal and other celebrities watched from the front row, adding the usual star power to the Paris showcase.- Ends
