Indonesian Citizen Affected by Floods in Bangkok, Ministry Says - Tempo.co English
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, confirmed it has received a report of an Indonesian citizen affected by flooding in Thailand.
"To date, the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok hotline has received one report of an Indonesian citizen affected by the floods," said Heni Hamidah, Director General of Protection of Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as confirmed by the embassy to Antara on Monday.
According to the Director General, the citizen was stranded at a hotel after floodwaters inundated access roads around the accommodation. Embassy officials in Bangkok have communicated with the citizen and verified his safety.
She added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to monitor flood conditions in Bangkok and nearby areas to ensure the safety of all Indonesian nationals in Thailand.
"Based on data from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) as of Sunday, September 27 at 11:40 a.m. local time, 36 roads in Bangkok were still flooded with water levels exceeding 15 centimeters," she said.
Meanwhile, the Thai Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) predicts the risk of heavy rain will begin to decrease on September 29–30, so weather conditions are expected to gradually improve.
Furthermore, Heni explained that approximately 2,500 Indonesian citizens currently reside in Thailand, including those living in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
The Foreign Ministry, through the embassy in Bangkok, continues to monitor conditions and maintain communication with the Indonesian community to anticipate further flood impacts.
As a precautionary measure, the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok has issued an advisory asking all Indonesian citizens in Bangkok and nearby areas to avoid flooded zones and check road conditions before traveling.
They also urged citizens not to drive through flooded roads and to prepare emergency supplies in case of heavy rainfall or flooding.
The Foreign Ministry urges Indonesian citizens in Thailand to remain vigilant, follow directions from local authorities, and immediately contact the Indonesian Embassy hotline in Bangkok at +66 92 903 1103 if affected by flooding or requiring emergency assistance.
