Infosys may move 1 in 3 employees into specialist AI jobs: Report

Infosys is planning to transition between a quarter and a third of its workforce into specialist roles and build a team of around 6,000 frontier engineers, according to people who attended a recent company event where the plans were discussed, as reported by The Times of India.

The Bengaluru-based IT services company has more than 320,000 employees. Its plans come as AI puts pressure on traditional billing models based on the number of employees deployed on projects.

An Infosys executive's presentation showed that 270,000 employees had received AI training, while around 80,000 were working with coding tools, the report suggests.AI CHANGES SKILLS, HIRING

The company is now looking to expand its specialist talent base as AI changes the skills and roles required in the IT services sector.

In April 2026, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said the company had not carried out layoffs in the previous year and did not expect layoffs, while emphasising reskilling as its approach to managing AI's impact on jobs.

At the time, Infosys also said it planned to hire around 20,000 fresh graduates. Parekh said employees were being trained to work with traditional coding methods as well as AI tools, including evaluating AI-generated code.

Parekh said in April that AI was already contributing around 5.5% of Infosys' revenue. The company was also expanding its work with AI companies and developing internal platforms for AI-led software development.
