Inside the Seahawks' uncharacteristic team showing in Week 3 loss - Seahawks Wire

The Seattle Seahawks suffered their biggest upset loss in Week 3 since the 2020 season. They were defeated 33-31 by the Washington Commanders. It was especially an uncharacteristic performance by Mike Macdonald's defense.

The defense had little answer for backup quarterback Marcus Mariota. The former No. 2 overall selection completed 19-of-31 passing attempts for 183 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Our Kole Musgrove noted a peculiar little nugget. Mariota is now 3-0 versus the Seahawks with three different teams.

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of this loss is the Seahawks outgained the Commanders 437-258. Seattle's offense produced 28 first downs compared to Washington's 17. The Commanders were 3-of-13 on third down (though they did convert a 4th down).

The Commanders won the turnover battle 3-0. That was the biggest difference. The Seahaws were sloppy with the football. Rookie running back Jadarian Price lost a first-quarter fumble. A returning Sam Darnold threw two interceptions at quarterback.

The Commanders pounced on those turnovers. Everything about Sunday's shocking loss was uncharacteristic on Seattle's part. It goes down as the Seahawks' first loss in 315 days (45 weeks), representing their first defeat since Week 11 of the 2025 campaign.

The Seahawks will look to bounce back in Week 4 versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
