The Iranian government says it has received a response from the United States regarding its proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. But the outlook for negotiations remains uncertain as the two sides are still at odds over conditions.

Tehran made the announcement on Wednesday.

The Iranian side put forward a seven-day plan for reopening the strait. Officials from the US and Iran are holding a series of indirect talks with the help of Qatari mediators.

Iranian media outlets report that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented the US response to President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Details regarding the response have not been disclosed. However, Reuters news agency on Wednesday quoted a related source as saying that the document describes a process for "returning the two sides to an enhanced version of the memorandum of understanding agreed in June, including concrete steps on Iran's nuclear programme."
