Iranian military says US preparing to attack again - Middle East Eye

Iran's military says the US is preparing to attack the country again.

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, which oversees Iran’s armed forces, said it had received information that the US was planning to restart direct attacks after months of reduced violence.

The military said on Sunday they would retaliate against any American strikes and that any countries hosting US assets would be “considered complicit”.

The Trump administration has insisted there are some skirmishes from time to time that no longer constitute a "war", but dozens of Iranian civilians were killed in American attacks just last month. 

Iran has continued to retaliate with increased and more targeted attacks on US military and energy assets in the region, in addition to maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, the US launched "Operation Economic Outcast" to "asphyxiate" the Iranians, the US Treasury secretary announced last month.

New sanctions are now rolled out several times a week, and on Thursday, the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control designated BitBank, a priority digital assets venture controlled by Iranian financier Babak Zanjani. 

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps said "there will certainly be significant changes in our defence and our counteroffensive" in the event of a new US attack.

"We will introduce new weapons with new capabilities into the battlefield, and the world will be surprised," he said.

"Our targets will not necessarily be the same as before either. We have new targets that have not yet been attacked."
