Is Hero secretly developing a Royal Enfield Classic 350 rival?
Hero MotoCorp has showcased a new retro-styled motorcycle concept at EICMA 2026, hinting at its possible entry into the traditional roadster segment dominated by Royal Enfield. While the company has not disclosed technical details or confirmed production plans, the concept offers a glimpse of how a future Hero classic motorcycle could look.
This concept embraces old-school roadster styling. Its design revolves around a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a round headlamp, wire-spoke wheels and generously curved front and rear fenders. The upright handlebar and low-set seat further reinforce its traditional motorcycle proportions.advertisementโฎโฏ Read Full StoryA blend of retro styling and premium detailing Hero has given the concept considerable attention to its visual finish. The metallic blue paintwork is complemented by polished metal components and gold-finished accents. The fuel tank gets decorative inserts with Hero branding, along with a brown leather-style strap running along its centre. The diamond-stitched brown seat and matching handlebar grips add to its vintage appeal.
The lighting arrangement, meanwhile, introduces a contemporary touch. The circular headlamp features an H-shaped illumination signature, while the rear gets a compact round tail lamp. A small circular instrument display sits ahead of the handlebar, although Hero has not revealed its specifications or functionality.
The mechanical layout is equally interesting. The engine features prominent finning and polished covers, accompanied by a long, low-mounted exhaust. The motorcycle also gets disc brakes at both ends and a chain final drive. However, details regarding its chassis, suspension setup, wheel sizes and braking hardware have not been revealed.Could Hero use its 350cc-class engine platform?
One possibility worth considering is the powertrain developed through Hero's partnership with Harley-Davidson. The recently unveiled Harley-Davidson X350T uses a smaller-capacity derivative of the partnership's 440cc engine platform, potentially opening up another avenue for Hero's future motorcycle development.
A related engine could help Hero establish a new product in the retro roadster category without developing an entirely new powertrain. However, there is no confirmation that the concept uses this engine or that it will eventually receive a 350cc-class motor. Its displacement, output figures and transmission details remain unknown.Royal Enfield Classic 350 could face a new rival If the concept eventually makes it to production, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 would be among its most obvious competitors. The segment also includes the Honda CB350, alongside motorcycles from Jawa and Yezdi.
Breaking into this category, however, will require more than retro styling and comparable engine capacity. The Classic 350's appeal is closely tied to its familiar design, characteristic engine feel and established brand following. Hero would need to get the riding experience, refinement, pricing and overall ownership proposition right to make a meaningful impact.
For now, the motorcycle remains a concept rather than a confirmed production model.
